12 Jul 1947, Los Angeles Harbor, California, USA — Howard Hughes’ huge flying boat, largest plane in the world, is going “indoors.” More than an acre-and-a-half of canvas and over 84 tons of steel are being used. It is expected to be completed soon to protect workmen while finishing the sky giant, and provide cover whenever the boat is in dock here. Date for the launching of the ship has not yet been set. — Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS
